बता दें कि कई राज्यों में होली के पर्व से एक दिन पहले होलिका दहन की परंपरा है, जिसमें लोग लकड़ियों और अन्य जलावन सामग्री को इकट्ठा कर होलिका मानकर उसे जलाते हैं। मान्यता है कि इस तरह से अग्नि प्रवाह से बुराई पर अच्छाई की जीत होती है। ठीक ऐसे ही होली का पर्व दक्षिण गोवा में पणजी से 80 किलोमीटर दूर स्थित मोल्कोर्नेम गांव में एक अलग और अनोखे तरीके से मनाया जाता है, जहां के लोग खुद पर अंगारे बरसाते हैं।
गांव के एक निवासी कुशता गांवकर ने बताया कि, ‘‘ हममें से किसी को यह तो नहीं पता कि यह परम्परा कब से चली आ रही है, लेकिन ‘शेनी उजो’ हमारी संस्कृति का अभिन्न हिस्सा है। होली के त्योहार की पूर्व संध्या पर आज भी हर साल इस परम्परा का पालन किया जाता है।’ उन्होंने बताया कि होली की पूर्व संध्या पर सैकड़ों लोग श्री मल्लिकार्जुन, श्री वागरोदेव और श्री झालमीदेव सहित विभिन्न मंदिरों के पास के खुले स्थान पर एकत्रित होते हैं और ‘शेनी उजो’ मनाते हैं। इसकी एक वजह ये है कि इस इलाके के आसपास 43 शिवलिंग है।”
होली मनाने का अनोखा रिवाज
कुशता गांवकर के अनुसार, ‘शेनी उजो’ की तैयारी होली के त्योहार से करीब एक पखवाड़े पहले शुरू कर दी जाती है और इस अनुष्ठान में हिस्सा लेने वाले लोगों को शाकाहारी भोजन करना होता है और पूरी तरह से सात्विक नियमों को अपनाना पड़ता है। गांव के एक अन्य निवासी सोनू गांवकर ने कहा, ‘‘ इस अनुष्ठान में लोग नंगे पांव हिस्सा लेते हैं। शेनी उजो अनुष्ठान पूरी रात जारी रहता है। जो भी लोग इसमें हिस्सा लेते हैं वे मैदान में इकट्ठा होने से पहले मंदिरों के चारों ओर दौड़ते हैं। सुबह होते ही उपले जलाए जाते हैं और उन्हें ऊपर उछाल कर खुद पर जलते अंगारे को गिराते हैं। इस अनुष्ठान में शामिल लोग भी गिरते अंगारों के नीचे भाग सकते हैं। ’’
